Why Taiwan companies should invest in the United States

The United States Is the World's Largest Market

🌎Largest single market — $29 trillion GDP and 330 million consumers
💰Deepest capital markets in the world — access to equity, debt, and venture funding
🎓Highly skilled, mobile workforce — output per hour over 30% above the OECD average
💡Global center for innovation — world-class universities and R&D partnerships
🏛️Strong legal protections and IP enforcement environment
🏭Proximity to major advanced manufacturing clusters — Arizona, Texas, Ohio, and more
🔗Supply chain resilience and geopolitical diversification away from China
🎁CHIPS Act, IRA, and other federal & state incentive programs offering billions in grants and tax credits

The U.S. hosts more inward FDI than any other country — $5.7 trillion in total FDI stock as of 2024 — and Asia-Pacific companies account for over 20% of that total. 2025 was a record year for Taiwan investment in the U.S., both by number of projects and total dollar value.

01Choose the Right Business Structure

The SelectUSA Investor Guide identifies business structure as one of the first critical decisions for foreign investors, covering LLC, C-Corp, S-Corp, and branch office structures. The right choice depends on your tax situation, liability preferences, and long-term goals.

02Understand U.S. Tax Obligations at Every Level

The U.S. has a layered tax system spanning federal, state, and local levels. Working with a qualified CPA on corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and applicable tax treaty provisions is essential before establishing your entity.

03Research Federal and State Incentive Programs

SelectUSA offers a Federal Programs & Incentives Database alongside a State Business Incentives Database. Understanding programs early — including CHIPS Act, IRA, and Opportunity Zones — can significantly reduce capital costs.

04Connect with State Economic Development Organizations (EDOs)

SelectUSA works with companies and EDOs to address questions involving federal regulations and activities related to investments. Engaging EDOs early is critical as incentive programs often require advance notification.

05Plan Your Workforce Strategy

The U.S. workforce is skilled, innovative, and mobile — output per hour is more than 30% above the OECD average. State and local governments actively help companies understand labor regulations and workforce incentives.

06Secure U.S. Banking and Financial Infrastructure Early

The United States hosts the most developed financial markets in the world. Opening accounts for a foreign-owned entity takes longer than expected — start early and work with banks that have Taiwan relationships.

07Develop a Capital and Funding Strategy

The SelectUSA Investor Guide covers raising capital including U.S. capital markets, venture capital, private equity, and tax considerations. U.S. capital investors are typically not involved in day-to-day management.

08Build Your U.S. Customer Base and Business Development Approach

The SelectUSA Investor Guide addresses customer acquisition best practices including B2B and B2C marketing, internet marketplaces, and public relations tactics for companies new to the U.S. market.

09Understand Federal Procurement and Regulatory Compliance

The SelectUSA Investor Guide covers Build America, Buy American, Trade Agreements, and the Berry Amendment. Companies in semiconductors, environmental technology, or advanced manufacturing should also assess CFIUS requirements early.

10Use SelectUSA as Your Single Point of Contact

SelectUSA serves as a single point of contact at the federal level. Since inception, SelectUSA has facilitated more than US$64 billion in investment, creating and/or retaining over 86,000 U.S. jobs.
